Americas #1 export

If you read more about this you find that one big factor is that we are using less fuel domestically, meaning there is excess supply compared to demand. The down economy has depressed demand. This article has more on our top exports. I didn't realize that vacuum tubes were such a big business: Top Exports

Nah, the "America feeds the world" is just an internet throw away line to end discussions...unfortunately people believe it too often.

Exporting is great, but as per the article, increases prices locally, as supply and demand kicks in.

AuthorEditor, if reduced domestic consumption were truly the issue, then prices should be way down because of it.

Don't get me wrong, I think that the situation is positive.

Oz could be all but self sufficient on oil, we export nearly as much as we import. We export the super good stuff at high prices, then import sulfurous lower quality crudes.

Food is inexpensive, so it takes a lot of food to add up to serious dollars.

Both CAN be true. We can feed much of the world, and have it not be the top export due to the (relatively) low prices of many food items.

Also, we may export less food because we are turning more corn into ethanol, reducing how much we export.

We are a world leader in agriculture but it's not a leader in export dollars.
