Amazon thinks they are slick.
I write reviews rather often and they are always respectful as I run my own business and
understand what vendors deal with day to day.

I keep track of my reviews and comments on them. I noticed once in awhile my review helpful points
will go down from where they were. Like one day it is 748 and then the next day 746...

I gave a product 3 stars when actually it deserved 1. I noted I will update it to be fair at a later time.
It was the only review for a few months and it simply disappeared. Gone.... So I put it back up yesterday and they took it down again. When is a profanity free 3 star review something to be removed???

We all know many reviews are fraudulent or paid for and that is okay. But a real honest review from someone
Who actually purchased the product isn't. The last few years I cut back on Amazon purchases which can be up to 200 a year. I also noticed Amazon makes it hard for you to contact them.

I try to spread my money around these days. We all need to eat

I did a low star review on something I bought from Wal-Mart online and it had no bad language just an honest review and it didn't even get posted, I got an e-mail telling me it didn't meet their standards without a reason stated. I reviewed their policy and found nothing I wrote to be against it and I tried to pursue it with them but couldn't get anywhere. They do it on purpose and Amazon would be no different.

It's part of the reason I look for other sources where possible or look for a ton of reviews in excess of 500 or more before I will believe it. I also buy only from places with return policies so if it isn't what it's cracked up to be I send it back.

Agree 100% Stevie
The worst thing I ever said was the product was ineffective.
It was allowed but later removed.
If they sent me an email and were honest about it or offered a refund on the product I could
Respect that more than being sneaky.

I use Amazon a fair amount but I will not count on their reviews for anything. I try to use independent sources.

Some reviews are so obviously fake, like Lisa who had commented how quiet her car ran on Amazon's oil. This was right after they had put it up on their site. Lisa was on her second round with the oil already.

Then there are those "I've never written a review before" bots. So much fakery on the Internet.

We had Prime for a long time and averaged around 100 orders per year. We rarely used Prime for anything other than the expedited shipping, so when they bumped the price another $20 this year, we decided it was no longer a good value for us and canceled.

It's been almost three months since we've placed an Amazon order. Where do I go to pickup that chip?

Dropped Prime a few months ago and haven't looked back.

It got to the point where most popular items (video games, electronics, etc) on Amazon are sold for the exact same price by the competition, so whatever else Amazon sells is just rebadged chinese crap like the weird brand names VICTSING or QUIDLOO. It's basically a glorified eBay.

I'm actually quite happy to buy from Walmart whenever possible because they have stronger ties with individual communities.

My local Wal-Mart for which i really never went to has that pick-up deal where you call and they bring your order to your car and load it and give you a small discount. I was at a store next door watching it and they were extremely proficient.

That I really like and the next oil run I do, I'll go to Wal-Mart.

I went to write a review about some motorcycle gloves I just purchased, came to find that I was no long allowed to write reviews due to doing something against their rules and regulations. I don't write many reviews, but all of them are honest and I've never been compensated for writing any of them. I also don't use any profanity or anything like that. I logged onto the online chat help and they very quickly said that they would reverse it. A day or two later, I got an email reinstating all my previous reviews. I went through trying to find where I could possibly have broke their rules, but couldn't find anything. I can only assume that one of the vendors flagged one my (very few) 1 or 2 star reviews, of which I only gave rating that low because the item arrived defective.

I wrote a scathing review of a John Grisham novel. There was no profanity. They took down my review and banned me from ALL reviews for life. Not appealable and ran by some unreachable panel. If it may impact Amazon's bottom line they will not allow you to review. BTW, that Grisham novel sucked.

For who?
Definitely not the employees as they tend to treat them as expendable. Plenty of articles on that from this year alone?
Definitely not consumers as their prices are not that great and their service is slipping.
Definitely not local communities who Amazon employs few to none. Those folks are most likely your neighbors.

A lot of Truth here ^^^^^^

Y'all know one place strangely that has actual honest reviews... AutoZone.... Seriously. Look at their own label Duralast Gold battery reviews. The group 24F battery they have is rated really bad... it seems to be actually quite real and honest. The fact I have found that same size batteries with old dates on their shelves and the very likely fact those batteries are never charged up regularly.. Would equal to a high failure rate before the warranty period was up... Thus equaling bad reviews... Which is actually on the AZ site.

AZ is not as honest as you might think. One time I wrote a bad review for a part because it did not fit. I included pictures of my receipt, and the part next to the OEM part showing exactly how it was different and why it did not fit.

A moderator contacted me to tell me that I could not post a review because I never actually used the part. He acted as a mediator between me and the manufacturer, who tried every way to make it out to be my fault. When I refused to back down, AZ closed my complaint and paid me off with a $50 gift card. Months later, I discovered that the same defective part was still being sold.

I'd love to see them running an engine on Amazon Basics Engine oil with the valve covers off and throw water and sand at it like Dura-Lube did.

The worst reviews are on car dealers sites. The fake ones.

I was hesitant to visit XYZ dealership after my friend had a bad experience at another dealership, but as soon as I walked in, Joe Smith greeted me and put my fears at rest. Joe was very patient and got me into the car of my dreams for less than I thought possible.

Ive written poor reviews for products on Amazon. They are still there.

Usually when I look at reviews, I always look at the 1 and 2 star reviews the most.

Of course helpful points will go up and down. All it takes is someone reading a review and voting against...

Hard to contact Amazon??!???!? Its so easy to do an online chat, like laughably easy, and they resolve issues in a snap.

Im missing something here...

On Amazon I've written several 1-star and 2-star reviews, and all of them showed up. I've also written a few 5-star reviews.

I know there are some retailers that intentionally won't post bad reviews, and they even admit it in the fine print.

The most laughable sites are some of the manufacturer sites where virtually every review is 4- or 5-star. Yeah, who is gonna believe that?
