Amazon.com is intrusive!

I have come to the conclusion that what and however Amazon.com does scripting, my firewall just hates it. It does too much probing and some the firewall autolists it as having malicious intent.

I just don't use Amazon.com any more.

I have never had a problem with it depositing eggs on my computer.

I honestly could not live without Amazon.com

I can. I haven't bought anything from them for over a year. I don't think they leave any "eggs", but they do probe. Not good. Maybe most folks don't have their firewalls set at "Paranoid" which is the next radio button above "Nervous".

I like Amazon, but they annoy me sometimes with their shipping. UPS, in my opinion, suks.
Sometimes, Amazon sends stuff through FEDEX, sometimes the USPS, all fine, but when they use UPS, I have to go through lots of hassle just to receive my package.
My Firewall is set pretty tight, I never seem to be bugged too much these days.
If I didn't use Amazon, I'd spend way too much time in bookstores.

About Amazon.com being intrusive, does this really surprise anybody about any big-time website? Just like Google.com in the other thread. Today you must assume that almost any website is a potential problem. It ain't just the porn sites anymore.

I've never had a problem with Amazon doing anything like "probing". My firewall logs don't show anything from Amazon other than port 80 traffic. They deposit cookies, but so do most sites (including this one).

Maybe the problem with with the firewall rather than Amazon.

I'm just the opposite of Mark, UPS is no problem at all, but FedEx is a pain to deal with. I have cancelled transactions with other vendors just because they ship via FedEx and I didn't want to deal with them.

My thing with UPS is mostly my fault. I'm not often home when the shipment comes, and the drivers won't leave a package without a signature, unlike FedEX or the USPS. My last purchase had to be delivered to my job, which I didn't really want, but was the best way for me to connect.

Just yesterday I was probing (owwwww) the Webaroo for books about FrontPage 2002.

Looked all over the place.

Then.... later in the day, decided it was time to take a peek at what Amazon had to offer.

Crikey!!!!!!

On the main screen of their site a bunch of pics and links to books about FrontPage 2002 appeared!!!!

Pondered. Contemplated. Hmmm.... are they looking at and reading cookies from other sites? I forget what site I was at before trying Amazon, Amazon servers can detect where I was before arriving at Amazon but I have yet to find a site devoted SOLELY to FrontPage 2002.

Something made the Amazon server decide to show me those FP 2002 books.

Can't think of anything else other than cookies from udder sites.

amazon can definitly read other websites cookies. i just closed my browser and then poen a new one and went to amazon, they wanted to sell me things related to motorcycles, hurricanes, and womens clothes.

sence ive never been to amazon before, yet ive searched and shopped for those items at other sites, i must conclude amazon can read cookes of other websites.

Just the opposite for me with UPS... Fedex won't leave without a sig and UPS just leaves it..

Ps No probs with Amazon..I do like seeing what I am interested in as XS650 mentioned
