Thats actually a good idea. I think they sell really cheap ones at box stores. Can you link what you got? Is it cleanable and replaceable?

I clean after each use / using same Filter for 3 years

I have had very good experiences with the Zep drain care (green liquid - never tried the powder).

Lived in a 50+ year old apartment years back where I would be in ankle deep water 3-4 minutes into a shower and the kitchen sink drained slowly. I ended up mowing through 2 bottles of the drain care but it got both drains flowing freely again over the course of ~2 weeks. I now keep a bottle handy and will typically treat the drains in my condo before I head out of town when I will be gone for a few days - then a hot water flush when I return. Have not had any drain issues in some time.
