Did an oil change on the wifes 08 v6 Sportage. The Proline filter that came off was 1/2 longer that the Mobil 1 filter that was going on. I double checked the application. Am I just paranoid that that 1/2 inch will make a difference?
Not sure why the M1 is 1/2" shorter, though recently there was a thread about an M1 listing a shorter application where the longer oem equivalent would have fit. That was strange.
But to answer your question, no it won't make any significant difference to your engine. If it makes you feel better, many quick lubes and jobber filters have now consolidated applications and frequently use smaller than oem filters.
The things that matter in an oil filter are its efficiency, flow, and dirt-holding capacity. As long as the M1 meets the requirements and you don't leave it on for an abnormal amount of time, the size difference is irrelevant.
Heh heh, I saw a wicked looking Marauder bombing down rt 3 in Weymouth? the other day. I was in a white and blue Transit in the right lane. The Marauder has gotta be the best looking Panther ever. Smiley is green with envy.
