Its thinner than mtl. Its Dex4 basically pretty thin but thats meaningless. What matters is the quality of the GL and thats very high in Redline products.

I owned the same truck but a Mazda B3000 with the same trans. I used Redline D4 in it for 50,000+ miles before I sold it.

It shifted great and fixed the second gear snick. The snick was there when I bought it. Had to double clutch it to not get it but the D4 almost fixed it. Snicked a tiny bit when it was real cold.

Don't forget Honda MTF II as a substitute for ATF in manual transmissions. I have the viscosity at 7.5 cSt ... a hair thinner than RP Syncromax. I bought a couple quarts for $10 each a handful of years ago. Price will vary from dealership to dealership, I'm sure.

I see that there is a Honda MTF III now available. Anyone have any specs??

I hadn't heard the myth that ATF is LOADED with detergents in about a decade. Thanks for memories.

The 80s era Z31's had a sticker on their manual transmissions that said Dexron ATF or 75W90 GL4. I'd go with the 75W90 out of those two if I still had one,to have the better protection of a dedicated manual transmission fluid,since the choice/option was given.

Maybe give Amsoil MTF a try,or if you want thicker,Amsoil MTG?

That's HYSTERICAL!

Could they have picked two more different viscosities among typical automotive lubricants?? You have ATFs that are around 7.5 and 90 weight gear oils that start at 15.0.

They put a lot of thought into that one, I'm sure.

And people wonder why I don't treat manufacturer's recommendations as gospel.

Instead of Redline D4, why not use their "High Temp"? I believe it's at a Dex III FM level but considerably thicker. Should be basically a thicker D4. I'm sure the root problem is a worn synchros and the thicker fluid is just a bandaid. If thicker is better I wonder if less FM such as a Type F or a mix of DexIII and Type F would help. I run the High Temp in my Acura's power steering system. It seems to retain its viscosity well but that's a very non scientific observation.

thanks for the replies, its funny u mention typr f, I was in aap today and was thinking about how typef might do in this transmission. and yea im sure the real problem is worn synchros but im just looking to get a little extra life out of it before rebuild time. but does anybody really have any idea how typef would do in this transmission? thanks again for any replies
