The reason to change as much oil as possibe is to get as much new oil in as possible. Change while the oil is hot, believe what is said about oil filters catching the crud, and just know that you will never get it all out, and you don't need to!
There's an Amsoil dealer that touts he has never changed his oil. He gets away with this because he pulls a sample monthly. This replaces enough of his old oil to allow the new oil with it's add pack to make a difference. That and a bypass oil filter system that he changes out annually with the couple of quarts replaced in the cannisters.
The point I'm making is this: You can either change out your oil all at once or a small bit at a time. The results will be the same. You can either get 80% or 90% of the old oil out and the results will end up being the same as long as your next oil change happens before all the additives are used up and all the contaminants don't get to a level too high.
Sometimes anal people can scratch too long. Ask me how I know?
