I can see I'm wasting my time here. Read my other post in the other thread. The inhibitor package is what defines the type of coolant. It's not one common ingredient it is common inhibitor packs that make them the same, 2EHA, neodecanoate, sodium hydroxide, same pH etc. The inhibitor pack is what distinquishes the different anti-freeze types and how they work.

You shouldn't ask a question if don't want to hear the answer. If you ask, then you should be open minded and not give some silly reply based on what you think you know.
Mechanix knows a good deal about coolant and its many properties and you should listen to him.

The "regular" Motorcraft coolant is a conventional green.
The newer specialty dark-green Motorcraft coolant is a Asian-style coolant like the Honda Type 2. It's not like the old-fashioned conventional-green.
Motorcraft Orange is a Dexcool-type (but Ford has their own spec # and not all of the DexCool-style coolant carry the Ford Spec...really not sure if there is much of a difference though)
Motorcraft Gold is a HOAT coolant, kind of a hybrid between conventional and Asian-style.
I think that in most cases, stick with what the mfg. recommends even if it costs a few bucks more per gallon than the "universal" coolants>

They all have ethylene glycol (or in the case of Sierra propylene glycol)-but they are NOWHERE near the same! In the case of your '99 Mustang I would look very closely at the labels & stickers on the cooling system-some '99 Ford products came with the Orange/Dexcool type-they were supposed to only be Mercury Cougars, but my brother had a '99 Taurus that had labels for Orange on it, the previous owner had somebody put green in it, sludged EVERYTHING-fortunately he was able to backflush his heater core multiple times, also had IM gasket problems & 1 head gasket fail on the normally reliable 3.0 V6-at under 90,000 miles! So the right stuff makes a BIG difference!
