All I did was put a battery in it.

Had a 2024 BMW x5 towed in for no start. Normally the girl up front takes pictures and notes anything wrong with the car before the job is given to one of us.

The car was completely dead. No dash lights.... nothing worked.

Determined that the 12v battery had completely failed.

I put a battery in it and did the new battery recognition thing. Did not touch anything else.

Owner comes to pick it up and says the navigation and radio dont work. Things I/we dont mess with other than turning the radio down if necessary. I didn't touch those things.

Starts pointing the finger at me trying to blame me for these problems. No I did not connect the battery backwards.

These are things we could not test when the car showed up. Then she starts pointing out scratches and what not that she says were not there before. Just how does she know exactly where to look for new scratches ?

Thoughts?

^^ This is why I only work on vehicles that are owned by people we 'know'. Not saying it cannot happen to me but there are more stories of the 'look what you did to my car' now more than ever.

A 2024 that needs a battery already? Thing was probably abused and ragged on. Left for dead, now every little problem is the fault of the last person who touched it.

I have seen many dealerships and repair shops photograph the vehicle as soon as it arrives on premesis for service. I think it is a good idea, and I take photos myself along side of them.

She sounds like a nut job Karen at best, taking advantage of your shop.

BMW uses very good batteries. I changed mine after 13yrs and it wasn’t battery, it was bad aftermarket amplifier. I thought it was battery.

Like it was said, BMW offers roadside assistance.

Battery is under warranty.

Something is wrong with that car. Possibly salvage.

In my shop days we had a sheet with a layout of a car and we circled dents/scratches/etc and wrote notes before the car even got worked on specifically to avoid this kind of bologna.

It's not a trashed car. You dont think that a dud battery could happen?

Thats what the girl does but she couldnt test the radio, get the milage etc as the battery was completely failed and would not even work the dome light.
