According to ExxonMobil's oil-comparison tool, the only "all-four-star" Mobil 1 oils are Mobil 1 FS 0W-40, Mobil 1 FS X2 5W-50, and Mobil 1 ESP X1 0W-30. These oils are all European formulations. Note that Mobil 1 0W-40 has been permanently replaced by Mobil 1 FS 0W-40, which is very similar but thinner to be more fuel-saving.

So, you aren't getting an all-four-star Mobil 1 oil unless you are buying one of these three. Chances are that their viscosities are too thick for your engine-manufacturer's specs unless you own a European car or an old car. Always check your other oil requirements before using any of these.

I don't think so. The stars are referring to additive concentrations, base-oil quality, and engine tests.

Marketing works so well. I'll buy Annual protection for almost twice the price of the 0w-40 and get almost the same benefits.

If you factor in the $12 rebates, the difference in price is nearly 3X.

Why make such a fuss about an oil that hasn't been made available yet? Once it's widely available, the price should be only slightly higher than that of EP, just as price of EP is slightly higher than that of vanilla M1.

That's what I think. Once it becomes more available my guess still remains at them pricing it between $34.99-$39.99 for a 5 qt. jug. Time will tell.

It's also possible that AP may permanently replace EP at some point.

Yes, maybe. Time will tell.

I honestly don't see that happening. How many people will pay $50 for oil?
