alcohol glass cleaner and window seals

Hi,

I was cleaning my windows with invisible glass this morning. Worked great. But I got to thinking... no matter how careful I am, some of this alcohol based cleaner (same deal for ammonia if I used windex) gets onto the rubber seals around the windows. No escaping from it, in reality, if I want to get a complete cleaning.

So, my question is, how bad is it for the rubber seals? Is there a way to protect/prevent it???? On the converse, if I put 303 on the rubber carefully, some inevitably gets on the glass. It is a vicious circle!

any insight would be appreciated.

have you ever had rotten window seals that you believe was casued by window cleaner during casual cleaning? I haven't.

yes but are your cars 15-25 years old??? At that point, it may make a difference!

My MB is an 83, bmw a 91. Noth run like brand new. Im not planning to get rid of either any time soon, nor stop using them (well, the MB needs some bodywork thanks to the uninsured driver)...

do they have damage from your previous use of window cleaner?
previous to my new truck my cars were 89, 85, 66, and 85 vintages. I think the envronment does more damage then occasional use of a little window cleaner. it's not like you are soaking the seals with with the cleaner, just a bit of overspray that is immediately wiped off.

I would imagine that using the 303 prior to cleaning the windows should ease all your concerns. I do the same thing prior to waxing so that the wax that goes astray doesn't leave white spots on the trim.
