Alabama > Oklahoma, 44-38
Clemson > Notre Dame, 35-20

Round 2

Alabama > Clemson, 23-21

Unless Al. plays stupid like in SEC Game (throwing passes when on 6 yd. line) they should be able to outscore Ok. Ok is fantastic offense, poor defense. Al. is good offense and defense so pick your poison.

If both Al. and Clemson get there, Al. is NC again.

if no Al. then Clemson is NC.

Then you have numerous penalties not called against Bama. One was the blatant late hit out of bounds. Another pass interference. No telling how many holding penalties against Bama's offense that didn't get called.

Oh yeah, didn't Alabama play The Citadel this year? I thought if you played them, and won, you were not to be considered a candidate for the National Championship.

Another thing-

Last year, even in mid-season, All I heard from Bama fans was "Put Tua in!!!" They were "tired" of Jalen Hurts. Tua goes in at the 2nd half of the Nat Champ game against UGA and they win (barely, in OT). Tua's the automatic hero.

Tua plays nearly every play, all year, this year, before Bama gets to 50 points each game. Hero. No one is begging for Hurts to make more plays or to start. Of course, Bama is scoring +50 points on most opponents, so why would they?

Tua gets hurt, Hurts comes in, saves the day, automatic hero. Savior-like pictures of Hurts appear all over social media late Saturday, all day yesterday and continue today. Articles written about how great he is, how he was majestic to stay with Bama, etc.

Indeed. It's like they all forgot that he was the QB which got them to the National Championship last year. Buffoons..

Ga. pretty much outplayed Al. the whole game, just breakdowns and poor decisions when Alabama put in a different quarterback they were not prepared for.


I like the call. Poor execution because they lost the surprise when they took too long to snap the ball.

Here's why I like the call:

Context: GA defense was tired because the offense could not convert. IIRC at the time the GA offense could not convert on any of the 3-4 previous possessions. Alabama kicker problems. A field goal was by no mean automatic.

So, failed conversion on 4th down gives:

GA defense a short field to defend and if they do get a stop the attempted field goal has a higher than average probability of missing. If the defense doesn't stop them, it's a quick score and the GA offense gets the ball back with more time on the clock.


As for being unprepared for the back up QB? Naw. GA got lucky when Tuoa (sp?) got hurt early. GA was prepared for a running QB, but they just didn't have the energy to defend against the other QB who has fresh legs and lots of experience playing in big games.

UGA was spot on for doing the fake punt, they forgot they had to execute.

Yeah... That was not the right call in my opinion there...

Just like catch in the end zone... Doesn't the player have to maintain the "catch" all the way to the ground?? Not possess it for like 0.4 seconds...

A ball carrier who fumbles the ball BEFORE they reach the end zone should have to get possession back and actually pull it into their body after they get it back again... All the way until the play is called a touchdown and whistled dead.. aka they actually have the ball to either hand to the referee or b) spike it into the ground or c) throw it into the stands or d) hand it to a kid near the end zone...

"Punt Safe" formation is typically used when the other team is punting into a short field and consequently there's insufficient room to set up a return along with a high probability of a touch-back. The defense wasn't "ready" for a fake, but in these types of situations it's not hard to get a cheap pass interference call because the corners are still blocking the gunners who have their backs turned to the ball.
