I had my 8 year pre-paid maintenance done on my VW All Track. Part of that is replacing the fluid in the dual clutch tranny. When they took the protective pan off, there was a leak where the trans pan was bolted to the trans body.... gasket starting to fail.

When replacing, they use both a gasket and some type of curable stuff to ensure a leak proof situation. But then they did something I never heard of before...they pressurized the complete job after the schmutz cured with air! They have to show no pressure drop after twenty minutes to ensure a pass on the installation process! Mine passed just fine. The, and only then, do they add the transmission fluid.

Is this a common thing?

It would confirm a good seal, I guess. Pretty sure it's not a common test done. They probably use the vent, attach an adapter and push a few PSI in there. If it holds on it's own the pan is sealed properly. Not a bad method, but surely not common.

On a conventional truck auto, I'd expect the dipstick tube to blow out!
