Just pop to check air filter on my 2000 silverado z71 5.3L, and seem like the air filter is shorter then the box. Is this look normal ?

GMs use 2 filters. One is for std system, one is for HD system. If you have Z71 pkg I believe it uses the HD setup.Does yours have the air restriction gauge?

I had problem with Mann air filter in my E430 too. I checked with Amazon, Rockauto, Mann ... all of them had wrong air filter for the '00 E430.

I measured the old filter and had been able to get the correct air filter from Amazon, what unusual is Amazon list 2 Mann air filter for the same car, one is 3/4" longer than the correct one.

It's rarely happen, but to be sure you should measure the old air filter and get the exact dimensions air filter to replace it.

Yub it does have the guage thing on the side.

Put the old one back in and go give the parts guy heck. Or slap yourself for not getting the right one. jk. But that filter cant be used in your truck. Save yourself another trip and measure the old one and when you get it, the new one.

Just think you basically got a deal on a K&N. ha ha

Some you might ask why i dont compare my old one to new one, yes I did, and I thought different brand some time make different size. it fix perfect, it just a bit short.

Went to the trash and pick up my old air filter. I went back to advance auto part. And told the guy what going on. He kinda give me attitute he ask me " if this had been install " I say yes " he say " we cant resale this, it have some black stuff on it " well it does have black stuff in corner cause my air box kinda dirty, just normal dirt. I ask him if he can go back and look up my truck and the part #, he kinda dont want to do it, but he did, he went and get another one. by time he get back with the box, I knew exactly it will fix my truck cause it alot bigger. long story short, he wont let me exchange the filter, cause I already install it and it have some black dirt in the corner. since it father day and i having great day, i wont let this guy mess up my day, and by the look at him, look like he have to work on father day, which is suck for him. Anyway I knew the manager really well and I will have no problem return it tomorrow. I pay for new air filter and went home install it. I also pick up cabin air filter also. My cabin air filter is so dirty and FULL of dirt/pine tree leaves/leaves. I have to dig my hand in and pull alot leaves out.vacumm it out and spray some lysol, it smell really nice inside the truck now.

btw drive work air filter is some good quality air filter, same part # purolator just different first letter. 2-3 dollar cheaper then purolater. I will continue using drive work air filter/cabin air filter....

"Dam it , part guy give me wrong filter."

I briefly worked a Sears Auto parts counter back around 1981. I'm full-on self-service, and always check the application guide and part numbers myself, online if possible, in advance. The only thing I might trust the counter guy with is to accurately tell me his name, that's about it. Then I'll pull the oil/air filter out of the box in the store, looking for damage or grease (meaning some oily-fingered chimpanzee bought and returned it), checking for missing accessories (gaskets, o-rings, drain plug, etc.), and also comparing the part number on the filter to the cardboard box imprint. Same for fan belts, spark plugs, etc. That's saved me some grief on many occasions. Just a month ago I bought the last AC/Delco spark plugs from an AutoZone store, only to notice grease on several of them before I left the store. "No thanks," I said. Me no likey "used" parts.
