air filter and duck tape?

Ductape is mans best friend, i keep a roll just in case i get into a fender bender so i can get my *** home, J/K. Thats a ghetto fix.

Lol... thinking about what i did (duck taping my airbox on a brand new car), seems very ghetto indeed hahah, but im just frustrated and was in a quick thinking of ways to not let any air/dirt into my air box unfiltered while driving. i will try to warm the seals to make it more squishier (it really feels like hard rubber almost right now).

DO NOT DO IT! I had a car with a cracked intake tube. I put duck tape on it and the glue melted due to the heat under the hood and went deep into the tube and the TB area.

Maybe if your using a small amount some may argue its ok but why risk it whens there is bound to be a better alternative like Hi temp silicone or??

Try something other than duck tape.

You might want to try different filter brands. As I posted above - Fram, Purolator leave 1/2 an inch gap in my filter box (drop in). I summoned up the courage to get a K&N and it fits really well - very snug. But after all the bad I hear bout K&N I am going to try other brands Nappa, STP, etc... Some fit some don't...

And it is a 2004 model car too!

I agree - so far you might be out $10-15 on that filter. Try others for fit and keep the receipts to return any like your current one. When it fits you're good to go 30K. You don't want to go 30K with duct tape. Creative fix while you solve the fit issue. That's why its nice to have at least 1/2 dozen aftermarket filter companies and OEM to get it right.

On some of my cars fram really does fit better than purolator and vice versa.

I dont get it...the old one fit or not? If it fit get another OEM filter until you can find another source. But if the OEM didnt fit right either, why not make it the delaerships problem? Bring it to thier attention.

And this is the part I dont get...all the K&N bashing around here, but the concensous is DUCT IT! Theres something seriously wrong with this guys intake...it wont close/seal? Thats a problem, are there similar reports in the Titan forums?

Or have you considered an aftermarket intake? Especially if your going to be changing filter every 6k.

Ive got a couple of friends with Titans...makes me curious now as thier both mechanically challenged.

Sorry for taking a long time to post what ive been doing... well, i figured out how to make my filter air box (not the wix filter itself) seal or close all the way. The air filter seals fine, it was the air box that couldnt be closed all the way due to the air filter's sticky side rubbers. I got the air box to close all the way by taking very light grease and distributed evenly, cautiously around the rubber seals of the air filter. And Waa laa!! it is closed! The problem with my OEM filter was that only after 6000 miles, the air filter was very dirty (pitch black dirt particles for the most part on that filter).

Thanks for all the help
