Air compressor oil

Half the people in this thread recommending Redline, Royal Purple, HPL, Amsoil, and the other half, SA non-detergent 30 weight from the dollar store. Ha ha.
HPL for me I was ordering a larger order of various oils and have not done the compressor in years. I had HPL put 2 qts of the compressor oil on the order and you know top quality and probably won't change it again in years. I was running Blue Jenny Ultimate Synthetic for years and year and would recommend it to anyone.

ND 20 or 30 works. Some apparently take automotive synthetic 10w-30.
I’ve physically felt my makita compressor run cooler when I changed to Amsoil synthetic, so for a once in two decades change, I’ll run it.
I still stand by the ST ND-30 haha. Air compressors usually have other problems I’m more concerned about than what oil it gets (like the condensation and rust issue. Stupid physics)

Interesting that you mention 30wt/ISO100 as interchangeable. I see that a lot. ISO100 isnt really in the 30wt viscosity range, is it? Running Amsoil, I’ve always blended some of the lighter product sold in quarts, just somewhat arbitrarily.
Always wondered why they don’t sell ISO 68 in quarts.
Probably not really a market for such a low volume of a fluid that’s used in high capacity systems

But point is ISO 68 is SAE 30.
ISO 100 is a light 40wt.
Those two things aren’t the same. For folks in colder climates I’d suspect that they might want a 30wt for easier winter starting. Just like in engines.

Look at chart i can tell you that many will be very poor at 0F in a garage in fact Royal Purple will freeze solid Blue Jenny is absolutely one of the best cold weather performance and it is a ISO 100

I have and running HPL 100 in the sump now im vary happy with it i can't find the tech sheet i had it it's as good it comes in at about a 10.5 cst at 100c
Don't know what price you seen on blue Jenny but price very different all over the place.

10.5cST is barely ISO 100…
My issue is that a 13.x cST “ISO 100” SAE30 oil really isn’t either I don’t think, based upon the chart.
What duty cycle you run at temperatures i think is important. I can be at 100٪ when sandblasting in summer but generally not.
Does duty cycle mean how often the compressor is running
Found the tech sheet i knew i had one i was close oni it. Found my invoice on it last 4th July sale with discount it was $15.0 dollars a qt don't know current price.
Yes sandblasing with my 7.5hp it will not shut off 100% duty cycle could be 1to1.5 hrs continues trying and will keep 125psi at the unit.
Most if not all non commercial pumps are not rated at 100%. Rating at 80% would be pretty good.

I paid not a ton more for a case of 12 qts! Want to say $30 but it's been a bit.
Mobil Rarus 400 series, last place I worked we used Rarus 427 in a large compressor.
