Air compressor oil

Is SAE 30wt (non detergent) still what to use in a piston air compressor?

I can get Cetus but only in 5 gallon pails, which would last me probably a lifetime. Compressor holds maybe 1.5-2 quarts.

Short answer yes but maybe have better options currently running HPL in my 7.5hp piston air compressor was purchased in single qts.

Look at Tractor Supply and Amazon for 30wt or ISO100. The price of this stuff has gone through the roof 3X the price for Redline than I paid just a couple of years ago. This should do the job for you.

straight 30 mainly however some of the newer compressors recommended a 10w30 full synthetic. that's what we used for compressor that ran any pneumatics in the school district.

No, and that's expensive. 30wt non detergent is about $12 a gallon.

+1 for Amsoil compressor oil. I use it in my pressure washer Cat pump. Been running it for 30 years. The first Amsoil fluid I ever used.

+1 for Amsoil compressor oil. I use it in my pressure washer Cat pump. Been running it for 30 years. The first Amsoil fluid I ever used.

I'm all set on AMS oil. I don't do boutique stuff unless it's the only option. And AMS oil even worse with their MLM sales like Avon or Fuller Brush.

I've seen ND30 cause rings to stick on air compressors.
I'm sure others will disagree, but AW46 works just fine in that application.

Seems like it'd be thin. We do cetus 68 for arctic use.

Compressor is in heated room, so don't need to worry about cold.

I don't know what was in it. Maybe was orginal oil even.
12qt case through work is about $32.

lol.. it didnt have HPL or amsoil then. $2.66 is cheap per Qt i would be content with that.

Probably not. Never even heard of an HPL. Who makes it?

HPL and call it a day. No need to buy so so oil in 5 gallon jugs to just have 90% drop out it's add pack because of you bought too much for a given 5 year oil life in the jug, as is a common industry time frame give or take to store oils.
