FReakin' Volvo FWD. Plastic handle to dipstick broke - rendering it useless. New one is about $15.

I jerry rigged the old one - don't ask.

My last Volvo. This Honda best be good...........

I bought a car once that had the dipstick broken off then shoved down the tube in an attempt to get it out. Pulling the pan wasn't a hard job on that car, fortunately. But consider yourself lucky, it could be worse.

The replacement was $25 - Infiniti parts pricing....

Pablo, you could try some Gorilla Glue on it! Might work; just follow the directions to a tee.

I have concrete blocks in my back yard that will probably never move again...unless, of course, the big one hits!

Mine broke on my Mazda but it still seated with the cap. As often as I check my oil getting a new one was not even worth it.

Vice Grips and a Shish-kabob skewer?

Your lucky it wasn't the shaft for the dipstick. Someone broke the one on the parts car engine I put in the Aspire. We knocked the remaining piece into the pan, I doubt it will ever come out...oh well. Putting a new one in was easy though, a little grease and small tap.

The Honda dipstick is an interesting cable affair. I kind of like the feel of it.

The AT dipstick is Japanese cheap, but probably effective - make sure the ATF is between the two little holes in the dip stick when checking hot.

Speaking of dipsticks, I just did an oil change on my friend's Scion xB.

The dipstick is plastic. All of it. Even the part that goes into the oil pan...

The dipstick on my mom's 2004 Malibu Classic is a cable with a 1" x 1/4" x 1/4" metal piece on the end of it with indentations (probably 1/8" deep) for the full and add lines.

I had a dipstick break in the tube... Drove for a year and a half with it resting in the pan

. I pulled it out last summer, when I was lucky enough to have 4 hours of good weather, to R&R the oil pan. No harm done.
