Hello all,

I was at my local Napa yesterday, and came across this oil; Agip.
How many have heard of it, and what are your thoughts? A full synthetic quart was 3.20. I know it is an Italian company, but that is the extent of it. Never seen it listed on here, or anyone talking about it.

Thanks for looking, and any help!

Cheers

Agip is an Italian company and has a really cool logo.
$3.20/qt for synthetic oil is quite cheap.
Assuming it has current API certs, or manufacturers' certs suitable for your vehicles, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
What grades were available?
I've never seen Agip oil on a shelf anywhere, so I wonder whether they're trying to build some North American presence?
Was this NAPA in Hawaii or Ohio?
I hope you're wintering out in the Pacific and not here!

fdcg27,

Haha, I am back in Ohio now. My time in the military was done. I am in NE Ohio. I saw it on the shelf at my local Napa. It was full synthetic. For Full Synthetic, they had 5w20, and 5w30 in stock. They had a bunch of conventional, and 15w40 also. Guy said, that the company was trying to find a local distributor of it. They have a distribution center out in Medina, OH, which is not far from me also.

AGIP used to be the recommended oil for Ducati (and Ferrari I believe) I was under the understanding that it was not sold in the United States. I too have never seen it anywhere.

Ducati now recommends Shell Advance (which is also not available in the US).

Not sure about Ferrari.

Wonder if Ducati will change to Castrol since VW now owns it?

Where was this NAPA?
We'll be in NE OH in a couple of weeks.
I also checked the American AGIP website.
It is fast and easy to use and appears to have been developed and contented by non-native speakers of the American lexicon of English.
They offer a Euro spec compliant 5W-40 synthetic at a bargain basement $66.00/case of 12 liters.
If they'd allow pickup rather than shipping the product, this would be an interesting oil to try in a Euro car.
Shipping costs would kill the deal.

I wonder how it would do in my 95 Jeep? I mean the engine isn't picky, but this oil is a great price. The information is limited though. Their site is a little wonky too.

I will have to search online for that plant in Pennsylvania. Bet ya guys dollar to donut, the plant is near Titusville/Bradford or Warren! Thats pretty close to where I grew up.

thanks guys,

adam

Based upon the specs met as listed on the bottle, I'd say it would do just fine in either of your Jeeps.
At $3.20/qt, the price is certainly right.
It would be nice to see a PDS/TDS for this oil, although I can't find one.
The American Agip site offers MSDS sheets only.
A VOA would be nice to see.
I wonder how this oil is formulated?

I have a 1994 Jeep with the 4 ltr motor. It is not picky about oil as long as it is changed regularly. I am sure your jeep will like that brand of 5w30

Shipping adds $41 bringing it to $111 to my door for 12 liters of 5w30 Euro spec Synthetic. I guess I won't be trying it unless I can find it locally. Would be great to have another 30wt euro option.

The plant is located north of Pittsburgh, pretty far from Bradford. From this Google map. It looks to be located in BFE farmland. What a weird place for a plant.

That is what the guy at Napa was saying. He stated, that a lot of oil change places use it locally, but the distributor wanted to also get it in quarts, and jugs, and sell locally also. Oil change places only receive in drums, so this is a way to get their name out there I suppose.

The NAPA previously local to me in Scotch Plains, N.J., still has old, dusty bottles of their synthetic 4T oil ONLY right on the shelf and in cartons on the floor, as well as the same from Elf.

I was going to buy some but they only had it in the very heavy bike weights.

I dated a girl a few years back, her dad was in charge of the distribution plant he talked about in Medina, Ohio. It's a small place. Agip is all we ever ran for years in several types of vehicles with good results. All conventional at 3,000 mile oci's. I didn't know about the forum and extnded oci's back then so I don't know how it does with longer oci's, probably just as good as any other conventional I'd imagine.

I remember years ago I searched for the name AGIP for one reason: Their name was all over F1 races, but I never know what it was.

If the $3.20 synthetic oil meets current standards, I would use it.
