Aged Tires - A Driving Hazard?

Chinese tires are fine and dandy till your upside down in the ditch waiting for the ambulance.

If Chinese tires are made in the same half [censored] manor as the rest of the items are made that come from china, your screwed.

I had a really old Michelin XZX mounted on the van about a year ago.
The tire had sat in the garage on a Mercedes W115 rim for a good fifteen years, out of the light, and had hardly been used.
The tire developed unmistakable structural problems within 6K miles.
Would I have a problem mounting old tires again?
Does the sun rise in the east?

I get new tires every 3-4 years, so I never run into "old" tires per se. But I would recommend replacing them every 5 years because the rubber does break down.
