Hey guys, hope you all are doing well.
Im putting together an HID kit for my 2009 nissan versa. I have replaced my factory headlights with projectors, so glare shouldnt be a problem. My question is, my car uses a dual filament H4 bulb. In order to retain the Hi and low beam function, do i need a hi/low hid bulb, or is there a special ballast that I need to use.
I would like to put this kit together using quality parts, such as philips ballasts and bulbs, I dont want to go the route of cheaper aftermarket parts.
Thanks for the help!

Replacing a dual filament lamp with a single arc HID lamp will not give the same beam, especially on high. I put a High/Low solenoid activated HID lamp in my motorcycle, and the beam on high removes most of the foreground lighting that was present with the low setting.

Seriously, though. The only lighting solution that should be retro'd into your car is an exisiting OEM HID projector and all supporting parts, especially if you're not sure what you're doing.

At best, you'll be blinding every one else on the road. At worst, that great deal you got on a ballast will cost you a melted front end.

I've seen precious few aftermarket H4 projectors. H4 optics are easily designed into free-form reflectors, but this older technology doesn't seem suited for new projectors. Most projectors I've seen are H1 or H7, etc.

Are you sure the projectors you bought use H4 bulbs? Can you provide a link to the projectors you bought, or at least a pictue of the back of one (where the bulb mounts)?

I have yet to see projectors with H4 bulb in it. Which projectors did you buy?

There was a time when I was personally considering doing aftermarket HID conversion for my H4 vehicles but I go wise and gave up on it when I saw massive glare.

That's what I thought, which is what prompted my question in the first place. I'm sure I've seen a FEW H4 projectors (for applications like bikes) where only one filament is used and there are two projectors. But maybe I'm wrong there also.

Either way, there's something missing to this tale.

I sent you a pm. Here it goes anyway. There is NO way to get quality when buying aftermarket hid projectors, and bulbs. Many are Chinese or Taiwanese made, and have very little if any quality control. I am a member on a HID forum and many forum members tried the HID Kit" route and were sorely disappointed, due to wasted time, and money. Here is what you should have invested in. OEM HID I added a link from a reputable site that offers OEM Bulb, ballasts, and bulbs to install as an oem retrofit. They will even retrofit the parts into a new lens assembly and ship it from what I understand.
