AFTER MARKET HEADLIGHT BULBS

My Chevy truck uses 9006 bulbs so I went and purchased SILVER STAR bulbs. I liked them but one burnt out after 9mos. I went down and found ULTRA SILVER STAR with longer life and even brighter.
I have had them almost a year and they are still going strong.I noticed on the web someone was selling Toshiba bulbs for about the same as the ULTRA's and had 1800 lumen and a life span of an OEM bulb.
I found out JOHN DEERE had the same bulb as on EBAY under part AH211917. After trimming one of the tabs it would fit the Chevy 9006 socket. I bought them and compared them to the ultra silver stars. Now I know I am going to get a boat load of flack but honestly the silver stars were much brighter, maybe not brighter but had the whiter light and the Toshiba bulb looked like a stock yellowish oem bulb.
I am very disappointed with the Toshiba bulb as it was not anything like I thought it would be. I still like the ultra silver stars better

The light from the toshiba bulb is not going to be whiter. However, I think you will still see better with the Toshiba.

I have the same John Deere bulbs in my BMW low beams and they are as bright as the 9005 conversion I previously used. I am going to go to the tab trimed 9011 Toshiba bulbs in my low beams as they are brighter than the AH211917/9012 low beam bulbs. My projector low beam headlights have excellent cut-off so glare should not be an issue.

Thanks Casey . I thought with all the lumens it was going to be some kind of lazer light. I thought I was going to have the HID look and that is why I am disappointed. A lot of people bad mouth the SILVER STARS but I do like the ULTRA's a lot better that the plain SS. I noticed that another company makes the SS and I belive it is like OSRAM or something close.
It does not cost as much but has (supposedly) a longer life that the orignal SS. I found them on the net and I have not tried them yet but when my ULTRA's go out I will try them out

Word is that the Osram Silver Stars (made in europe?) are much better than the original Sylvania Siler Stars. Search a bit and I am sure you fiund more.

I have also heard the bluer the light, the less actual visible light there is. So some these HID bluish/ purple bulbs are not good for actually improving "vision".

I used Sylvania Silverstars for a bit. I liked the effect, but my car ate through them in no time. I'm now using Philips X-Treme Power bulbs that make the Silverstars look dim in comparison.

I have found the SilverStar Ultras to be slightly brighter and longer lived than the regular SilverStars. I've been happy with them so far.

Two questions. Where do u find them and second how much ? The Ultra sylvania SS are around 50.00 as were the John Deere but I like the whiter light Those other on the web that I found were OSRAMS or something like that but I do not want to spend more money on something that does not look like HID lights.
I not into the yellow,blue or green thing. I just like the way Ultra's look and if I can find something as good or better and cheaper I am for it.
By the way , thanks for your reply. I have replaced all my headlight and fog lights with SS from sylvania.

I searched the net for those bulbs from Philips and I indeed found them but I did not see any bulbs for GM type cars or trucks. No 9006 bulbs were listed.
I looked at all the bulbs with different indicators and none looked like the 9006 that would fit GM type .

Hi,

The silverstars are really a joke. I don't like Sylvania's deceptive advertising. I called Sylvania a year ago when the Silverstar Ultra's came out. The 9006 bulbs put out 1000 lumens, the regular silverstars put out you guessed it 1000 lumens, the X-tra visions put out 1150 lumens. I spoke with an engineer at Sylvania, and he told me that the Ultra's put out 30% more light at 50 or 100 feet. Thats the catch. The actual intensity isn't brighter. Auto Express The link that I added lists the best and worst bulbs that the British Performance car mag tested. Upping the viltage is a possibility, but life will suffer.
