Toyota and BMW are killing with sedan sale right now. Sedan is still far superior mpg wise than anything SUV regardless of gimmicks to make them frugal.

I'm surprised any manufacturer is introducing a new sedan.
I observed car buyers seem to buy the most popular vehicles on the road. Here in Houston SUV/Crossover the most popular are RX350, XC90, X5, Q5 and a few GLCs and they're everywhere here.

Yes. But trend since gas prices are up are sedans. BMW will gladly sell you X7 now in no time, but 330i? You better have patience. Toyota Tundra? Tacoma? No problems. But try to get Sienna or Camry hybrid.
I think I like the silver one even less.
Almost a repeat of fifty years ago as people traded in their land sleds for a Datsun B210 or other Japanese nameplates that gave excellent fuel economy.

Agreed, our Mazda6 scraped multiple times visiting downtown Chattanooga. Apparently urban planning allows for steeper approach and departure angles to transition through street/drainage areas. Ironically a crossover would be better to navigate.
Still love the car though.

You don’t have to go that far back. 2007-2008 was key period when people realized 4cyl engines are perfectly fine. Then they forgot about it super fast. In 2008 I paid premium in Alabama $4.89 a gallon. In 2015 I remember paying diesel here $1.56 a gallon. Everyone jumped on gas guzzling SUV’s like gas runs for free.
I bought Sienna in 2015 for $28k bcs. everyone was going after Sequoia so it depressed prices of used minivans. Now, they would give left kidney for Sienna hybrid. Suddenly, it’s not important what they are seen in driving it.
Gramps would probably drive a Lexus RX. But if Gramps doesn't want a RX, then the Crown is there for him.
Plus, it would be a lot easier to old people to get in and out of compared to a regular sedan, whether it be a Camry, or ES.
After a few years of owning an SUV, and then renting a Nissan Altima, I really appreciate getting in and out of a SUV more than getting down into a regular sedan.
I would think that Gramps ain't buying a $60K car in big numbers. This halo vehicle is a curiosity and nothing more, IMO
I too appreciate the chair height seats in my little Ford SUV. I Just dangle my legs out and stand up.
If Gramps saved their money wisely and has a great nest egg for retirement, and wanted 1 final car to buy for the rest of their life, it's probably going to be a Toyota or Honda product, and since the RX is the Lexus volume seller, it's probably going to be an RX, and if they don't load up on the options.
It definitely isn't a good looking car.
I agree with JeffKeryk. Toyota does not do a good job designing their front clips. Neither does their Lexus division. Not sure what they are going for here.
I always thought of the Avalon as being direct competition to Buick. They really aren't nice enough to compete with a Lexus or Acura, are they? IDK. Never owned one. They aren't my thing. Too boring.

Maybe they mention it in the video, but I can't hear it since I don't have speakers here at the office. What size are those wheels? Reminds me of the 24 or 26-inch wagonwheels with rubber-band tires we sometimes see being driven gingerly around town.
