Yes, I know all of you have seen this before, but there has been a lot of talk about these filters lately. I thought it might be a good time to bring it up again.

So how did the K&N do versus the other filters?

They sure did wash them a lot. I've owned mine for almost 3-5 years and have only washed them once. I oil them often though. used oil analysis always come back with low Si. Oh and the used oil analysis are posted on here on a Saturn and a B16.

They did wash them a lot. That was one thing I liked about the study. I wondered how the performance woudl change over a "lifetime."

Very good point...5 washings would probably be a lifetime for me...buying a filter every 20 years! I really think the masses wash them too often and too hard--thus causing the element to be damaged. I bet a few filters died an ugly death at the coin op with high pressure water.
