AEM Dryflow questions.

I currently have an AEM intake with the regular AEM filter. I was interested in the dryflow because from what I've read here it filters better than the oiled filters correct? My other question is how does it "flow" compared to a regular AEM filter?
 
Nope. Sounds the same. Performs the same. No change in MPG.

Better filtration numbers than the K&N (not sure what the oiled AEM filters were at) and no oiling process every 30k miles.

It almost sounds too good to be true.
 
Yeah thats what i was thinking. I like the idea of better filtering with what seems to be the same flowing kind of filter as i have now (original AEM) and based on what I've read on AEM's site and what you've said that is infact the case. I will most likely be buying one shortly.
 
Anyone know exactly what the cleaning solution is in AEM's Dryflow cleaning kit, and if there is a less expensive homebrew solution to AEM's solution?

Didn't find anything as to what the AEM stuff really is -- so no progress made on a cheaper homebrew. However, I got the AEM brand stuff (2 bottles) from quadratec (a jeep site) for $12.98 delivered. Best price I found.
 
Well, all I know is that I popped off my Airaid filter yesterday and blew it out with compressed air from the inside just to clean it up a little and look down inside the tube. I was really, really surprised that the insides weren't even dusty. Even with OEM filters and all my other cars, there was a little bit of dust, but not this one. Also, I've had this filter on for two years now and it's been dry and dusty.

I wish AEM made a drop in replacement filter. I already have the airaid mit that replaces the stock intake tube.
 
I put a replacement AEM filter on my K&N intake a few weeks ago. I'll be interested in seeing whether my silicon numbers decline on my used oil analysis.
 
This looks like a filter/Cold Intake I would like to look into. Unfortunately, I drive an Xterra and I didn't see a listing for it.

The other night i removed my AMSOIL airfilter for my stock one and after seeing what was left behind with the oil im glad i made the move. Now im thinking on one of those intakes.

Well they don't make one for the new Tacoma's yet either. Here is what I did:

You could do the same. I would email AEM first and see if a Brute Force kit for the Xterra is even in the works. If not buy a K&N (or whatever brand) kit for your truck and retrofit the AEM filter.

Mine has been great so far. Changing the oil this weekend so I'll get a used oil analysis with this filter in a few weeks.

Did you noticed *any* gains in gas mileage between the factory air box/air filter.....compaired to the AEM ??

Nothing drastic. Maybe a slight increase, I'm talking 0.5 mpg.

I'm honest. I didn't buy an intake for mpg gains or minuscule HP gains at unusable RPM bands. I like it for the sound and the look. The acceleration is better in my truck, that I can feel. I think some people mistake responsiveness for an increase in HP, hence the "butt dyno".

The fact that it's a reusable filter and doesn't need to be oiled is another bonus.
