I think you missed the point. The insured may come out OK since his insurance company would have to pay out the claim, but from an insurance companys point of view, this is an exposure that should not have existed.


You seem to imply that simply being DIY creates the exposure. That is the specific point I disagree with.

DIY does not automatically create liability.
 
That's a truly pertinent point when dealing with the insurance industry, and liars lawyers post facto.

Neither give a Rat's freckle what actually happened, but whether it can be pinned on an individual, implied negligence, or cut a deal with another insurer.
 
It all depends on how much mileage accumulated on these 7 vehicles. If you are changing oil every 3 months I don't see the major savings DIY.

7 trucks x 4 oil changes/year x $25(discount from local garage oil change)= $700 ish
