I asked AA's chat feature, with an answer from them of "I don't know".

What happens if you order online with a discount code for store pick up, then you want to return some items that were not needed. In my case, I want all rear brake job parts on hand, but might return wheel cylinders if unneeded.

Example: I order $100 dollars of parts, use 40% off code, pay $60. I then return unused wheel cylinder at $15.

$100 -$40 = $60 paid. Then I return $15 dollar part.

That would put me below the $100 needed for the 40%. Do they subtract the total code discount of $40, or pro rate it (40% of he $15)?

You get back what you paid for it. The regular or sale price, minus the 40 percent discount you got. This will all be reflected on the receipts.

Exactly, even though you get a $40 discount on a $100 purchase,
each item is discounted equally. It is all broken down on the receipt.

What you pay for an item, is what you get back.

Just to be clear......

Brake shoes at $20
2 drums at $60
Wheel cyl. at $10
Hardware kit at $10
Subtract $40 discount code
Pay $60

I return the "$10" wheel cylinder and get $6 back ($10- 40%).

Correct? They don't eliminate my 40% off the whole order because the return puts it below the $100 target?

I want to buy 2 wheel cylinders and 2 adjusters just in case, but likely/hopefully I don't need them.

Thanks for your answers. I'm an AA discount code virgin and don't want a bad screwing the first time around!

EDIT: Is it o.k to split the order to gain more discount?

I.E.: One order at $100 and second order at $60?

You do not lose anything even though you are returning some of the items that got you up to $100 to use the discount code. They are banking on people not returning too much I guess. Plus they still make money anyway, maybe just not as much as they do on non-internet business. I have nearly stopped buying from AZ since I started using the AAP codes for every order possible.

Thanks. Yes, the 40% off makes it possible for me to buy the better/safer Wagner Thermoquiet shoes (new) and still come out way ahead of any other store's econo line. That's compared to the $15 generic shoes (Taurus) that all the stores seem to have....I think some are "rebuilt" because they want a core charge.

Can't believe it's taken me so long to get on board with these discounts! Sigh.

Thanks everyone. Anyone on the "splitting order" question?
