Just went in to my local Advance auto parts and saw House brand Dexron VI for $5 bucks a quarts. Is it any good? Ive been using Valvoline Dex VI in my '04 Cavalier and it works really good no problems. I want to make the switch to Dex VI on my wifeys Alero but I dont want to pay $9 bucks a quart.

Question one, does it say DEXRON-VI approved on the label?

Question two, is there somewhere on the package a licence number, it should look like J-xxxxx. Sometimes they can be hard to see as the numbers are often stamped in black ink on a black container but they are still visible if you know what you are looking for.

You never have to pay full price at AAP. Go to the Products, Rebates, Sales Promotion forum here and find a 40% off coupon. I bought Mobil 1 ATF for 5.xx and you can get Maxlife which is full synthetic and speced for Dex VI for $3.50. If you want that house brand you can get for $3 a quart. Not sure in "Big35" is still working but it was $35 off of $85 which works perfect for buying a case of fluid and a few filters. Oil is usually excluded from coupons.

Advanced Auto = Never pay full price. Order online and pick up in the store. Besides you can check the stock on the item online before you get to the store and find out they only have half of what you need.
