Additives for 460?

It is 7.5L engine in Ford trucks, this one has under 50K miles and is from 1995.

If you know "460", you know that they burn oil, regardless of mileage or use. This one burns a quart per 1000 miles. But, runs well and does not smoke in any color.

Any additivies that I can use in it?

Schaeffers EP 132 might help the burning. You could try auto-rx, if it is burning due to a ring, or seal problem. Try a 40 weight oil.

The burning in 460 is inherent due to its design. Ever person who has one reported burning. I am not really looking to defeat that. I do however want a long-lasting motor.

I must have gotten a good one. My motorhome 460 at 70,000 miles used under 2 qts in 4400 miles last trip. That's still a bit high though. I'd like to see less than a quart.

But what brand and grade of oil are you using? Sometimes a change may reduce consumption, especially if it is a chage to a thicker oil.

The person who had the truck before me had the engine replaced at low-mileage because it was burning the oil so badly. I don't know why, but it's something inherent in the design of the motor which makes it use oil, so that even 1qt/1000 miles is supposed to be good.

And this engine I have is a low-mileage engine.

I cannot remember what I put in it now, probably Castrol GTX, but with the next oil change, I will use Chevron Delo 15w40 weight, the heavy duty stuff.
