When I had a MB V6 diesel DI, I used Power Service Diesel Kleen in every fill up mainly to lube the HPFP and injectors. I now have a MB DI 3.5 gasser. Does it's HPFP need any additional lubrication additives to protect it? They are expensive.
I'm concerned about keeping the HPFP in good shape. Does tier 1 gas keep it lubricated? Even though it's less than a diesel, it's still higher pressure than we used to use.
This is almost a decade old, but Afton Chemical claims that it has additive technology that works better on GDI engine injectors. They claim that the heat at the injectors tends to cause more deposits.
Not sure if they claim anything about valve deposits. That's the tricky part since port injectors end up spraying the mixture right on the intake valve surfaces. GDI is less direct. I heard of a few ways around this including coatings on the valve surfaces, as well as supplemental port injectors, like what Toyota has. The supplemental port injector is also supposed to help with performance where spraying down the intake valves is just a secondary benefit.

therefore i am overly cautious, i buy cheap fuel and additive it myself.....
edit-only diesel fuel is being measured for lubricity. this can be critical for common rail pumps. it seems there is no such test for gasoline fuels, afaik.
