Yes my additional cooler is in series with the radiator cooler. I have the additional cooler first in the loop so the radiator can help warm the fluid in the winter. Not that the winter temps in my current location are very significant.

How difficult is it to remove the pan with the gauge sender installed in the pan. For inspection and cleaning while not under the Van?
