Adding Auto-RX during cleaning phase?

Hello-- I drive a 2001 Acura Integra Type-R and I both burn and leak oil. The burn is pretty bad, but the leak was just a drop or two on the pavement every morning before I left.

On a new oil change, I put in 12 ounces of ARX and a little less than 4 quarts of Castrol GTX Conventional 5w30 oil, and a new K&N oil filter for the cleaning phase. During the cleaning phase, the leak has gotten much worse (but I have full faith that it will slow again during the cleaning cycle). The leak, combined with the burn, is causing me to add more oil during the cleaning phase. My question is: because I require the addition of oil during the cleaning phase, should I add some of my second bottle of ARX, or should I wait to use it for the second treatment or maintenance dose (haven't decided yet)?

When I did mine, and I had to do a double cycle because of the mileage on the car, I just added oil, but kept strict to the quidance for changing filter and oil.

I guess I'll just do a double cycle, but my car doesn't have even close to 100,000 miles on it-- not even half that.

Jelly,

Salvage title; previous owner had it stolen from him, and then I bought it. Checked out fine, 250psi across all cylinders, and I think the previous owner put some kind of stop leak stuff in it to mask the burning problems.

27,000 miles.

From what I can now tell; blown head gasket and needs new valve stem seals. Probably overheated at one point.

Yeah, I put one (new vehicle) and two (problems you mentioned) together and figured that this vehicle must have a pretty "sketchy" history.

I'd actually recommend using a much thicker viscosity lube in this particular application given it's "unique" history. For example, we've seen a great UOA on this board from a new Honda Civic Si using Mobil 1 15w-50, but a group IV synthetic probably isn't the best bet given the leakage you mentioned.

Jelly,

My friend's second dad owns the Acura dealership near me. I'm going to get the oil burning issue fixed after my application of ARX, and then switch up to Mobil 1 5w30. I currently have like five cases in my garage for "celebration oil" for when the leak stops. Engine seems to be in pristine condition, but the gaskets and such in the engine seem to be more or less shot.

i'm guessing whoever stole it, drove the same way.

i wonder if it was abused by the owner?

As for your question......
Toyota 4x4 - 4 banger, 330k, with valve stem seal smoke at startup and leak.
Using M-1, started treatment.
As qt of oil added used Dino and 1 oz Auto-rx.
It now is 200 miles from rinse stage, is still leaking but stem seal leakage stopped.

Amazing.........
