Well I got around to adding a coolant filter to our IH hydro 70. took a few pic for those interested. It also got a flush and fill of 50/50.

And yeah there is plenty of clearence on the top hose. Not sure why it looks like it is laying on the manifold in the pic.

Filter base: Wix #24019
Filter: Wix #24071
Hose is 3/8 trans cooler hose.

Can't wait to cut it open some time in the future!!

Any particular reason for adding it?? Or just 'cuz you can??

coolant turned mud brown after flush and fill 2 months ago... maybe I should try and get a sample in a jar and then after some use take a another sample for comparison.

You can send a sample for analysis. Was this a kit specific to your tractor and included the mounting bracket, etc? How many vehicles have plugs you can remove (I assume that is what you did) and install a filter.

I would like to put a coolant filter on my Bobcat. Its already got 5 filters, minds well make it 6.

I made the bracket and used a wix filter base.

This tractor didn't get any kind of coolant maintenance until I took over, other than being topped off with tap water. Like I said the coolant is new yet in a month or two with little hours it will go from green to rust colored. And thats after it is flushed until the water is clear. so I guess maybe new coolant does have a cleaning effect?

I love the idea of coolant filters and this tractor was a perfect candidate.

As far as which plugs. I went from a Tstat housing (pump output side) to the oil cooler (pump suction side) to get the proper flow through the filter. I was lucky in that it had plugs I could remove.

If you having trouble finding a return spot, the radiator drain is always an option.

I would like to put a coolant filter on my Bobcat, but have not found the perfect place yet. The radiator is above the engine by 6" or so, and that causes a problem when checking a coolant filter, as the coolant would tend to run out.

My Dad bought an old Farmall tractor in maybe 1960 (crank start) for $93 and it did not even have a water pump, it used convection. Huge radiator. I think he never put in any coolant. Just filled with water and drained it. I think it probably had a leak also.

Nice! I added one to my 7500 below a few months ago. What kind of coolant did you use?

actually having the radiator above is best as it allows the air to escape better. Also found out that as long as you leave the radiator cap on, very little comes out because it pulls a vacuum when changing filters.

50/50 conventional green.

That explains the cleaning action then

I agree!

I just got done getting some new cooling parts together for it. I'm still waiting on the lower rad hose to come in. Other wise I have a new upper, and t-stat.

Nothing has gone wrong, just wanted to do it as preventative maintenance. Since all the hoses and t-stat are original (40 years old)

and I had actually used supertech all makes/models which was green. I plan on refilling with a TRUE conventional green, the zerex green.
