Adbv material

Patman's last answer in the "Wix's oil filter aka's" posting about the color of the adbv got me thinking. Is it safe to assume(though that usually gets me in trouble) that if the adbv is red in color it's the better silicone material versus the black nitrile which can leak easier. The FL820S is advertised as having the silicone valve and it is red. The FL200, for my 4cyl engine doesn't brag about having a silicone adbv but it is also red. Could I assume it's also the better silicone valve.

With other filter makers, I don't think color is the telltale sign of a silicone antidrainback, just with the Wix filters. If it's red it's silicone, if it's black it's the older nitrile style.

I got a couple of NAPA filters for my mom' s Probe GT which had black antidrainback valves, and the Dana rep told me they must've been old stock, but that it would've had the good media, just not the silicone adbv on it. I then went to Carquest and bought her a Carquest premium, and it had the red silicone antidrainback on it.

Hmmm...my case of Wix filters I got in a few weeks ago has the black ADBV's too. So I guess these are likely old stock?

I have friends who own a local bus company here in town. There vehicles all use Wix filters on their diesel engines. Next time I stop by there I am going to check the colour of the ADBV on their filters. They always have a wide variety in the store room.
