Hey guys, thought I'd share a rare good experience with a dealer. A friends 1999 buick needs the exhaust system replaced, and I was helping him get quotes. Called the local Buick/GMC dealer and talked to the service guy. An exact quote from him was, "If you want us to do it, we can, but honestly, I'd feel like we were ripping you off. Find an exhaust shop around because OEM is gonna be way to much" Very nice guy, and I was impressed that he would recommend an outside shop. if anyone is ever in the Ankeny/Des Moines area, check out Bob Brown Buick/GMC!

Not always. It always pays to check with the dealer, if you become familiar you may get a decent discount.
I just got a Subaru Center pipe and muffler assy for $50 less than AA even using their $50 off coupon.
Same price as Rock with shipping but i have this tomorrow not next week.

Bob Brown is anything but an honest company. You just had a good tech is all.

I had a similar scenario with my 96 Golf GL back in 2001. I called the local VW dealer the upstate SC, and inquired about a quote on a new OEM exhaust. The service writer told me "it would be 500 bucks and that I should go to Midas."

Well what I didn't know was that when you had a OEM VW exhaust installed at the dealer it had a lifetime warranty against rust through and general failure. So I went to Midas and got a 220 aftermarket system put on. Well after a couple of years the pipes and center muffler rusted through, and that was covered but the labor was not, and the "geniuses" at Midas for some stupid reason removed a very important center hanger roller bracket assembly which kept rubber hangers from failing early. So it seemed that every 8 months or so the rubber hangers would fail...

VW $tealer didn't do me any favors. Not sure why they would REALLY want to turn down a cash job, they are in business to make a profit. Lazy techs? IDK.
