Most oils on the shelf that meet the ACEA are usually ACEA A1, A3 or A5. I haven't seen any ACEA A2 before. So has the ACEA A2 become obsolete or is it just ignored now?

ACEA A2 & B2 were dropped from the listings in 2004.

From the ACEA 2004 Oil documentation:

The categories A2 and B2 are not included in this edition of the ACEA European Oil Sequences because they are
unsuitable for some of the current engines and will be unsuitable for many future engines. Misuse may cause engine
damage. However, the use of A2/B2 oils for older engines (where owner's or workshop's literature recommends this use)
is still appropriate and can be done according to the categories A2-96 Issue 3 and B2-98-Issue 2.

I was doing a search before posting and found this.

I have a new jug of valvoline maxlife full syn, and the regular semisyn maxlife in 5w-30. The specs listed on the back are THE SAME with the exception of ACEA2 on the semi syn, while the full syn lists ACEA1.

Did they not discontinue the ACEA2 rating?
