Could someone please explain to me what ACEA A1 is? I know froma previous discussion regarding Valvoline Durablend that it is rated ACEA A3 which is a European standard, and I noticed that Valvoline All Climate in 5w30 and 10w30 is ACEA A1. Castrol and Havoline, (not sure of other brands) don't seem to have this listed on their packaging. Is it a superior rating to have in a conventional 5w30 and 10/30 motor oil?

A1 really means nothing to me, it basically says its a low friction oil which will give you good fuel economy. A3 and A5 are what you want.

Thank you for the chart and graph you sent. I apreciate that, and that helped. But why isn't Havoline and Castrol GTX conventionals listed as ACEA A1? I know that the A3 is better, but we are speaking of conventional oil here. And it would seem that the ACEA A1 rating for conventional is a good thing. Is this something new that Valvolne A/C is now doing?

Well, mossad, to answer your %$#$#%@ question, #$%@#$% ACEA A1 denotes #$@#$ standard quality (not #$@$#@ premium quality) 0W-30, 5W-20, 5w30, 10w30 for $%#@#$%@#$ normal and extended drain intervals. These #$@!$#@! oils have %$#@#@#$% low HTHS-viscosity ($#@#$!$# 2,9 - 3,5 mPa*s) and show $#@$#@$@# increased fuel economy. Is that now $#@$@## clear?
