This filter came off a 2003 Chevy Malibu with about around 143k I think (customer’s car). Oil used was Mobil 5w30.

This filter was not having any of that extended OCI...looks like a pencil was poked through it almost. ADBV was stiff and kinda stayed bent after squeezing it hard enough.

Ecore not a ~14k mile fci filter. Even without the hole, the distortion on the endcaps corresponding to the seam pleat area could have been bypassing oil at the compression spring or the adbv center tube area.

Weak point, wide pleat spacing at seam pleat area eventually resulted in hole. Run 5-6k miles, likely ok. Unsurprising nitrile adbv not pliable after this fci. No combo valve for this application, just adbv.

Many newer ecore anecdotes now have shown better pleat spacing/uniformity around seam pleat than this one.

Thanks for c&p.

The filter does not look good with the possible hole in the fiber. The oil itself looks ok considering the high mileage. I wouldn't run any oil over 10,000 miles and its very hard for me to go much over 6,000 miles. Just old fashioned I guess. Thanks for the c&p!

Wide pleat on these can be seen before use looking in the center tube. I returned a Walmart ST that had exactly that, glad I did. Although in my case I never load a filter before it's changed.
Very bad on this one as no doubt some pleat material fibers went into the engine.
Happy I am sticking to what works and believing what I myself see as defects in oil filters. Have seen a lot in many brands. Wide pleat, glue over center tube holes, loose glue shards in the center tube, off center fiber end caps, rough edged center tube cut too short, bad adbv, stiff adbv, the list is long.

Since you named so many defects possible..... What filter are you currently using / recommending that's not called Fram Ultra?

I know that this filter was run for a much longer interval than I would ever run on my Corvette, but I'm still glad that I stopped using AC Delco filters with my last oil change. I just don't feel confident in their construction at all, I will only run the Fram Ultra or NAPA Gold on this car from now on.

I actually witnessed the stated defects myself before passing judgement. Same as others do when they get defects. I now use Toyota @$3.45 each for one car, and Delco PF65 made in Austria by Mahle for another, until PF65 substitutes, PH477, are used up. I am sure this is world wide news.

Is that the red arrow pointing to where the media was trying to blow through?
