Hi

I would like to know if anyone is doing the same as I am.I have a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu 3.1L.The original filter # for the car says to use a PF-47 but am using a pf-52.The dealer and a friend mecanic told me it's the same filter just longer.By the way the cross # for fram is ph3980 for the pf-52 and ph3387a for the pf-47.Any thoughts.

Thank you in advance

My 03 Monte carlo ss is the same way.It calls for a pf47.Im useing the Supertech 3980 which is the same as the pf52.Only dif is they are longer.Holds more oil and should be able to filter a little longer.

Thanks for the replys. They were very useful.

I guess I will be only using the pf-52's.

Lots of people use this. GM actually recomends both on some vehicles. There are some that have clearance problems though, especially the 3800. Check it out, and remember the engine does move.

Good to know. I have a MAlibu 3.1L and might put the PF52 on next time if the darn thing will fit. Its hard to change the filters on malibus.

I know this is a different motor, but the concept is the same...

My work van, an '01 GMC Safari AWD (4.3L), specifies a PF-47, but says a PF-52 is acceptable if clearance is not an issue (it isn't)...I've been using the PF-52 (or equiv) for the last 12,000 miles worth of changes with no problem.
