I have a 1999 accord lx, 4 cylinder, with 190,000 miles. This past week I decided to do some maintenance...so I changed the struts, sway bar bushings & tie rod ends. Along with one drive axel. I had noticed a slight ticking or valve noise...when I checked the adjustments I found three exhaust valves were .003-.004 in. tight. So I brought all the valves to within specs, and of course the clicking became worse. It appears there is some damage to either the valve end or the cam....My question is should I leave the valves set to spec. or reduce the clearence to minamize further damage by letting them pound away the way they are set now. Thanks in Advance for your help.

Back out one of the noisy adjuster screws and check the tip where it rides. I've found that the chrome plating is often chipped and worn thus making the "clicking" sound. Just takes a minute and is an easy fix.
I like checking valve clearances dead cold. Checking them hot or warm allows constantly variable changes.
So I recommend a dead cold recheck, first.
Other parts can wear, like valve stems/guides, or rocker parts. These can cause clicks and noise.
