Accord Start Issue

2010 Honda Accord LX. 2.4L 96k miles.

2 times in the last week, my Accord wouldn't start unless I fluttered the gas pedal. You could crank and crank.... Nothing. Then give it a bit of gas, and she glumbly started up and ran just fine.

Today when it happened, I pulled the car out of the garage with no issue and washed it in the drive way. 1 hour later, it started right up and I slid it in the garage. Then an hour later I went to pull it out of the garage, and it wouldn't start....

What should I do? I use this car for long trips, going out of town. How do I resolve this? I have a Honda Care Warranty until 100k miles. I'm at 96k now.

Fuel pump? Fuel Pressure Regulator? Battery?

Please help!!
 
On a Honda Accord, it is likely to be a failing fuel pump or the Fuel Injection relay module that sends current to the fuel pump. The next time you experience a no-start event, spray aerosol carb cleaner into the air filter intake for 10 seconds and immediately attempt to crank it. If the engine starts and runs for several seconds, you have confirmed that you have spark and compression; therefore, the fuel pump or relay is the issue.

im leaning toward what Mr nice said...Scan for codes even if there is no CEL if all is ok check fuel pressure with a good gauge ..Have it handy during the no start issues.

CEL is NOT on. Does fluttering the pedal to get it start give any indication as to the problem?? It's happened 2 times in a year, not twice in a week
 
I never understand why no car manufacturer install a pressure sensor in a fuel line. It would be much easier to diagnostic with many car symptoms.
 
Is it a drive by wire system or is there a throttle cable? The ones with the older system with throttle cables have an air bypass valve around the throttle plate which is important for starting and idling. If the valve is stuck closed, you would have to press the gas pedal to make it run.

I'll try the Autozone scanner and see what they find. I'm sure I'll have to take it to a Honda dealer for a proper scan (about 40 miles away).

I'll take a look at it tonight and see what I find. Thanks. But I think the 2006-Current 4 cylinders are DBW

Similar condition was very prevalent on Nissan VQ engines; also known as "car wash syndrome" e.q. you start the car, drive few feet and turn it off. I think engine gets flooded.

Since she's already got 96k miles on her, I'll install a set of new plugs soon regardless.
