My recently acquired 07 Accord has 'Green' coolant in it and I want to replace it with Honda one.

My plan is to :

1- drain green one, add distilled water in the radiator 2-drain it again and then again add distiller water, 3- finally fill it with Honda Blue one.

Is it an overkill or I should stick to 'green' one and just drain and fill a new 'green' one?

Appreciate any input and help. Thanks

I'd change over to blue.

I would do at least 2 drain and fills with distilled water. Make sure it gets good and hot and the thermostat warms up....and then completely drain.
3 D&F's might be over kill....but that's what I'd probably do.

At my Honda dealer they offer a mild "cleaner" that they flush through the system to clean out any gunk/scale before installed new coolant. Might be something to consider....flushing a cleaner through it on one of your rinses might be a good idea.

Can a CLR be used as a cleaner?

Or I would just stick to distilled water.

Honda Blue (and Zerex Asian) come pre-mixed, so adding any of those after a distilled water flush will throw off the final ratio.

Pep Boys sells concentrated Rechochem Asian-spec coolant. Using that will get you close to the spec'd 50/50.

Do you know what it is? Could be a chance that it's the factory fill since Honda Type 2 coolant used to be dyed green. In that case the premix can be just be filled normally. Even then I wouldn't necessarily worry about it if you do a flush and it's at least 40%, which you can test. How cold does it get where you are? Where I am it almost never freezes, and even taking it to the mountains in winter it's not really cold enough to worry about.

Not sure if they still sell it, but the product information sheet for Zerex Asian Blue comes with a temperature table showing everything from 40% to 70% concentrate mixed with water.

07 Accord came with Type 2 Blue from the factory. If it is truly "green" AF it's not Type 2 in there now. Can't say for sure what the "green" AF might be.

As Type 2 and most Asian AFs including Type2 come as premix, following your plan after distilled with premix will not get you to 50% concentration with one AF fill. You will have to more than rad. one drain and fill with the premix then test each time with AF tester/hydrometer after allowing to mix in block. Wasteful, yes. Otherwise you'll need to find a full strength AF like the PepBoys OEM Concentrate mentioned. Do the distilled flush series, after last one, fill with half system capacity with AF, top with distilled.

In lieu of that, do a radiator d&f with something like WM Valvoline Zerex Asian blue AF premix, then shorten the interval and do another somewhere down the line. Eventually it will be all Asian AF, ie., Asian PHoat.

I have Pep Boys OEM Concentrate laying(older bottle OEM) around too. On my last drain, I can simply pour that in and it'll definitely be more or less 50/50.

In our area, it never get super cold so even 60/40 won't be an issue either.

I have looked for the OEM Pep Boys coolant for the past year at all the local PB stores. Not there anymore despite their web site showing it. I even called them, said they had it in stock and drove down to get some. No luck. As usual with Pep Boys, nobody is minding the store, IMO.
