Accidentally Drove through EZ Pass Lane - Now What

99% of the time, I boycott the NYS ThruWay for political reasons.

However, I had to get up at 4AM, drive 75 miles to vote, then drive 75 miles to work..

I called the Thruway Authority ... the dope I got on the phone just kept asking "Yeah, well what bridge did you drive across" ... Apparently the world revolved around NYC and there is no Upstate.

I emailed them and I was told that I will be given an opportunity for an appeal and that, generally, appeals are more likely to go through if it's a first time offense.

I'm going to make a copy of the ticket stub and then send it in when "if" I get a ticket.

Again, the light turned green for me ...

Miller the rest of new york state might as well not even exist for the rest of the world. If you tell someone you live in NY everyone automatically assumes you are from NYC. It's extremely irritating. I'm a new yorker, but darnit I don't live nor want to live in the city.

Anyway I once did that on accident, and never got anything, and we have an EZ pass. It didn't read the transponder.

the most irritating thing with ez pass was that about a year ago dad drove to washington state from here, and took the ez pass. He then shipped the ez pass back USPS. apparently, when the truck drove from boston here, it went through the EZ pass lane, and it charged our account. A total of like, $30. I called and disputed it. how do I know? It was on the Mass pike and eastern part of the NYS thruway, at 3AM on new years day. Yeah I know exactly where I was and it certainly wasn't driving on the mass pike. Never did get that resolved, they sent a letter saying that it electronically registered so there was nothing they could do.

In NJ, if you go through, they send a bill. I dont know if there is a ticket for passing through, versus a good faith option to pay the bill.

When you have an EZ pass, you put down the account number, and they charge your account.

I once went through a booth in MD, with my EZ pass, and it didnt register. It was a $2 toll at the Baltimore tunnel. They sent me a bill for $2 plus a $3 service fee. I called them and said it was ridiculous, because in NJ there is no fee, and Id gladly pay the toll. They told me that if I didnt pay the fee, it would still be in default. I told them to go scratch.

Hopefully I never get pulled over in MD. I dont mind paying the toll by mail if it is due, but a service fee to provide this to me? Especially if I have an EZ pass account? No way.

They ship them in those electrical anti-static bags... Apparently that's why.

you don't have to wait for aticket, you can pay missed toll on the website, just put in your car details and pay the toll.

See if you can find a website for the entity that runs that specific tollway. There may be instructions for paying a missed toll. (I know Chicago has convenient signs after the toll readers listing a web address where you can pay electronically.)

Locally, there's a confusing web of toll roads that always trip me up because I don't drive on them regularly. I missed the tollbooth recently because of a construction zone, and e-mailed the toll authority about it. They referred me to a phone number for missed EZ-Pass tolls. EZ-Pass had a record of the "violation" when I called, and let me pay my 70 cents by credit card. The website gave me the impression that if I waited for a ticket to be mailed, there would also be a violation charge.

I've driven thru Ez Pass Lanes in my vehicles where I may have taken out the EZ pass to lend to a friend or forgotten at home and I haven't gotten a ticket or notice. I suspect it's because my license plate is registered over on ezpass.com under my account so in case it doesn't scan my tag, they will see that I have an ezpass account by looking at the license plate and just charge it to that.

I think the whole idea of 'toll roads' is crazy...what are we paying taxes for if not roads?

I loaned my brother my EZpass once, and he got a ticket mailed to him; his plate did not match my EZpass.
I had to look up my account, find out if they charged me (they did) and then cross-reference it with the time they claimed on the ticket; it was ONE second apart.
they told me this happens sometimes if you are changing lanes while its scanning you, so it charged me but also ticketed him for not paying!
