Air Conditioner oil - how much to add?

Maybe you can measure how much comes out of the compressor and assume from their? I presume the condenser/drier would hold the most oil.
If you need to buy oil only buy denso nd8 which is for non electric r134 system unless it already comes with the components if they're available. If not available and you have to buy some cheaper grade components dump it out and put the nd8 if you want it to last as long as possible. It's the best stuff available, double end capped and highly additized. It's hpl in comparison to the unadditized single cap pag oil that is golden state sae 30 in comparison you get off the autoparts shelf. I don't trust that ice32 stuff it doesn't look like an additive pack more like a different oil in an oil.

Thats a sanden compressor so it has an oil sump. Thats what that bolt on the middle of the compressor body is. You put oil in there. Not in the lines.
Most of the oil should stay in the compressor. If I was doing this job I would measure what came out of the old compressor and add that much back in plus another 1.0-1.5oz depending on its past service history if available.
Always better to slightly over oil vs under oil.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, not much (an ounce at most) oil came out of the compressor, but it looked good (golden and clean).
Reference charts say the condenser and evaporator together should hold roughly 3 oz. That would leave about 5 oz in all the components that I’m replacing. At least that was my thinking, but I’m no AC expert.

Can you get me a better pic of the compressor? That dont look like a sanden.
Well that's odd. I have never seen that style of compressor on that engine or model jeep. Forget what I said. The oil has to go into the system. Since nothing came out all is a guess. I would put 4.5-5oz in there.
I was guessing 5 oz, but was unsure of myself. Nice to get confirmation from a seasoned pro. Appreciate it!
HS-18 was the standard compressor on Liberty. Chrysler used and still uses quite a number of Visteon now Hanon compressors
