Can the UPF63R be used on a 2017 GMC Sierra with the 5.3?
Rock Auto Used to list it as a premium but no longer do.

Did you ever get a clean answer on this? I too bought one off RockAuto, as it listed it for my '17 5.3 V8 Silverado. I don't have any issues that I'm aware of but now see that this filter is for the V6 (Hi Feature V6) per the following:
Today's engines have very tight tolerances, multiple oil pressure control systems and high flow lubrication system requirements. These requirements will vary based on the specific engine design, so the proper match of oil filter to the engine application is more important than it has ever been in the past. The High Feature V-6 engines RPO (LGX) and (LGW) have higher oil pump pressure to accommodate engine cam phasing and high-speed bearing requirements. As a result, the oil filter performance was improved to meet this higher oil pressure output. The new UPF63R oil filter has a thicker outer shell to provide higher burst pressure resistance during cold temperature conditions and greater fatigue strength. Failing to use this filter could result in external oil leaks due to gasket blowout or wrench flute cracks. Any time an oil filter is changed on one of the above vehicles, it is recommended to use the new and improved filter.

With that said, it is no longer listed by RockAuto as for this engine (5.3 V8) Besides having a thicker outer canister housing, is there any other reason not to use this?

This is what is listed on the information at RockAuto:
An ACDelco Gold Ultraguard Oil Filter provides outstanding protection for demanding uses, such as racing, off-road, and heavy duty truck applications. With 98% multi-pass efficiency at 25-30 microns and burst-strength that is five times greater than normal engine oil operating pressures (as long as the normal engine oil operating pressure is not greater than 51psi), the ACDelco Gold Ultraguard Oil Filter is the clear choice when performance matters.

I just put the first one on about 1000 miles ago. It definitely has a thicker can than the regular 63e
Have not noticed any difference in running it vs the wix or blue can ac delco

I run the UPF63R on our Cadillac since they’re called for by name in the manual. On my Silverado, I just run the standard PF63. When we bought the Caddy CPO, the dealer had a PF63 on it when I changed the oil. I wouldn’t think that GM would call for the UPF63R if it wasn’t needed??? There seems to be a TSB on them using the ultra.

there was a TSB from GM that most of the 3.6 liter engines could use (and I guess in your case requires) the UPF63R filter...surprisingly to me the UPF-63R was not mentioned (left off the list) for the 3.6 twin turbo in the CTS V-Sport LF3 or the ATS-V LF4...I have seen where many of the people on cadillacforum.com recommend the standard PF-63 without issue for those applications (V-Sport and V)

This is the reason that i go to a new Cadillac Dealership that just opened up near me, they use the more exspensive Uprf63r filter while the other Cad dealership used the cheap Pf 63 .... I was pissed at the,m big time....
