Both of these filters are shaped the same... supposedly both work in my 2004 Chevy Colorado 3.5L. The PF-59 was the factory mounted filter.

Looking inside, the 59 looks busy - the 61 appears pretty blank..... looks mega free-flow with no anti drainback valve that I can see on either end. It's emptyness reminds me of filters from the 70s.

Anyone here observed both of these filters?.... maybe shed some light on their differences?

Is the 61 a shorter filter? The only filters we use are the 59 and the Ph44 (short) for all the new Gm stuff. More info please. BTW, I am now seeing mostly all Champ filters OEM on GM now.

They are both the same size. I examined both at PepBoys yesterday. Will continue to use the 59s for now. Can't seem to find a Motorcraft crossover number that'll work on the Colorado.

I finally figured it out. Because my Colorado 3.5L has a vertical filter set-up, I can buy with the ADBV or without. The 59 has the valve - the 61 does not.
