AC Delco Oil Filters

Good to see. I have always been leery of the super soft Orange ADBV's... I had one "Flip" on me once and that was enough... from then on I just decided to find something proven and use it.

Hastings is on all my cars now... yeah, it's a rubber adbv.. but it isn't going to tear.....

Is that second picture of the media failure with the Valvoline oil filter an ecore? If so that would be kind of ironic since ACDelco approved the ecore for some of its filters.

ACDelco use to really be top notch and a great value. I think their cartridge filters are still good and their classic filters that are still available in place of ecores.

It's definable and ecore, and the main reason I will never use them. The media can blow out way to easily on them IMO.

Actually the 'super soft looking' orange adbv doesn't look to be a standard silicone adbv, it looks more like a 'combo' valve like those now used in Napa Silver series and Napa Pro Select. I've never had an issue with silicone adbv and prefer them to nitrile. I'm not a fan of the combo valve design.

The Valvoline does look to be ecore, which as mentioned by mechx is ironic since it is a Champ made ACDelco design. Afaik, current Valvoline filters are now made by Purolator like the QS, Pennzoil etc.

Indeed. My favorite auto parts store is totally old school.

Go in, grab a barstool, order parts, get parts. There's hardly anything in that store that I would call junk... except maybe the Lucas oil additives.

Lots of good stuff there. They exclusively have Hastings filters, with a housebrand that is Hastings made... it resembles the "Casite" filters.

I will ALWAYS choose this style store over an AZ, AA, or O'R.

The Store? Fisher Federated Auto Parts.

Yup it is from an old Napa Gold, The new NG1372 does not use the combo.

The last set of pictures showing the "compression set" are more than likely someone getting lazy and not changing the o-ring at every oil change. that being said, the AC-Delco classic non-ecore oil filter does offer a quality for little cost.

They screwed up on that sentence. It's supposed to be width.

That is an interesting phenomenon on several levels. Afaik that is only 'silicone' combo valve application design ever posted here. That design apparently didn't last very long and perhaps the above picture is an indication of why. They (Wix/NG), apparently have now gone to a dome bypass in that filter application.

Lastly, when I think ACDelco I think primarily of filters for GM vehicles which have engine block bypass built in, so no need for filter bypass. That being the case, there would be no need for a combo valve, just an adbv. Perhaps that is from/for a non GM vehicle? In any case, that design has apparently been discontinued.
