Sent this email to AC Delco on Friday:

I am aware that AC Delco continued the UPF-44 and UPF-52 filters but was recently informed by Champion Labs that they are no longer manufacturing
the Ultraguard Gold oil filters for AC Delco. Can you tell me if this is correct, and, if it is, what company is now making the filters for AC
Delco?

The reason I am asking is because I am concerned that the quality of the filter will be compromised if in fact Champion Labs is no longer
manufacturing this line of filters for AC Delco.

Thank you for your help,

Got this response a few moments ago:

Thank you for writing ACDelco.

At this time we can not give out that information. We are sorry that we could not be of any help at this time.

Thank you for your interest in ACDelco.

I wonder why they're being so tight-lipped about all this? Hopefully we can find out who is making the ultraguards soon. I know that I'll stop using them if there's a change in quality.

Maybe they don't want to brag about their new premiere supplier, Allied Signal.

Lets hope not...

i just don't know whats the best filter to use for my 98 crown vic and 98 expedition!!! i want to use the best oil filter that has a fast flow, filters 10-20 microns, and has a top bypass valve that ford requires...i really like the baldwin company and donaldson and wix..

Here's my question. I have a Super Tech #3675, a Mobil 1 M1-206, & AC Delco UPF52 & UPF44. All of these filters have a "G" stamped into the base plate. I have a couple of Amsoil filters that do not have these markings. Is this a marking that is used by Champion Labs to identify their filters.
Since Champion Labs Makes the Super Tech and the Mobil 1, but according to them they do not make the AC Delco Ultragard Gold and haven't in the past year why would the UPF44 and 52's have this marking? The filters I have were manufactured in Oct 2002.
THE BIG QUESTION IS, WHO'S MAKING THOSE AC DELCO FILTERS?
Note: The last AC filter I cut open about a month ago was a standard PF59. It didnot have the flat tension spring in the bottom like they used too. The tension was supposed to be maintained by the rubber anti-drainback valve. The filter cartridge was actually sitting on the bottom of the can. If the anti-drainback valve becomes deformed over time what will keep the oil from bypassing around the filter?
