I have found the second filter mentioned here thru searching (its used on the 6.6 Dmax equippped pickups) but nothing on the first. The two filters are listed on the GM Parts page as fitting my 2017 2500HD gasser.

Now looking at the owners manual it lists a A3181C 'Professional' filter (as per a search here).

Which would be the optimum filter for the Great Lakes area, mostly pavement driving w/ some gravel roads?

I'd imagine either one will suit your gas 6.0L? or 6.6L just fine. Those Delco filters should be good quality.

I checked the link about the air filter test (it included the Duramax filter and the results seemed to mirror the results that Hot Rod or Car Craft magazine did back in the 1980s. Their comparison test on was using an open element air cleaner assy that would be used on the street. Among the various paper element filters, the AC was the best.

Right 👍
Everything I've seen seems to do well on those. I use my f350 Donaldson filter as an example of how great OEM filters can be. I ran almost 10k and the oil sampled at like 7 ppm silicon.
