I noticed today that the AC Compressor belt had come off on my 87 Accord. I have hardly used the AC all winter. I don't know what would have caused the belt to come off the pulley.

Anyhow, it looks like a PITA to put back on, so I just cut it off (it had somehow gotten into a position where it was around the PS pump belt, but not actually interfering with it)
Is there any harm to not having the belt for a few months until I find something else that I need to bring the car into the shop for, and have them do it then?

Thanks

On my car ('98 Pontiac Grand Prix) there seems to be a big problem with the idler pullies seizing ~50k miles. This will generally cause the belt to snap or jump off.

Check any idler or tensioner pulleys on the A/C path. They should spin smoothly and without wobble. If they're at all 'tight', probably a good chance it's that.

ferb!
